Welcome
One of the consequences of the interesting history of Catholicism on the Isle of Wight is the variety in style of our churches. This includes, in Newport, the oldest purpose-built, post- Reformation, Catholic parish church in England or Wales; and in Ryde one of the foundation churches of the Diocese of Portsmouth and the first church in England to be dedicated in honour of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
There are churches in Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin, East Cowes, Cowes, Bembridge, Ventnor and Totland Bay.
There two abbeys, several convents and a lay community.
There are primary schools in Newport, Ryde, East Cowes, Ventnor and Totland. Christ the King College, a joint Anglican and Catholic school in Carisbrooke, offers secondary education for the whole Island.
